Founder Graeme Cox joins illustrious fellow countrymen as a winner in the famous Glenfiddich Awards. Graeme Cox, co-founder and Managing Director of dns, last night took first place in the Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards business category. The award adds Graeme to a prestigious list of Scottish talent including Sir Ian Wood, Colin Montgomerie, Ewan McGregor, Kirsty Wark and J.K. Rowling.
Graeme took first place despite stiff competition from Robert Graham (Graham’s Dairies), Tom Cross (Dana Petroleum) and Richard O’Connor, Tino Nombro and Grant Whiteside (Ambergreen).
Graeme co-founded dns in June 1999 and it has grown rapidly and effectively ever since. In 2004 dns won the Deloitte Fast 50 competition, making it the fastest growing technology company in Scotland and the 13th fastest growing in EMEA. The following year, dns won the Edinburgh and Lothian Business Excellence Award for Best Performing Business in 2005 only five years after winning the Start-up of the Year in the same competition.
The award ceremony was hosted by Lorraine Kelly and the awards were presented by famous Scots including chef Nick Nairn, author Ian Rankin, Olympic sailor Shirley Robertson and Scotland's First Minister.
The awards ceremony, now in its eighth year, was developed to recognise individuals who lead the way in various aspects of Scottish culture. The public voted online and over the phone to decide the winners. Categories include business, food, sport, music, writing, screen, art and broadcasting.
On receiving the award Graeme said, “I am both thrilled and honoured. Business in Scotland has a number of success stories and I am glad that I have been able to play my part. This award belongs to the world-class team I have around me at dns and the hard work we have put in as a team. The support I have had from friends and family, especially my wife, has been invaluable to my success and that of dns.”
