    TECHNICAL ENGINEER VACANCY

dns is recruiting for a Technical Support engineer – a security role with excellent opportunities for skill progression and practical experience with a large number of security technologies and practices, all within a dynamic and challenging environment.

The role would suit an experienced engineer with a keen interest in moving into security.  Relevant industry qualifications would be an advantage.

Job role: The successful candidate shall be expected to provide technical support across all our supported products, but with an initial emphasis on the skill areas highlighted above. Receiving support calls, the job holder shall log and progress the call to a successful conclusion within agreed service targets. Utilising appropriate trouble-shooting tools and techniques, the job holder shall identify the root cause of any service and/or security failure and make appropriate fix arrangements, up to and including full use of ITIL compliant processes such as change control.

The job holder shall be expected to operate as part of a larger team, both educating other team members and updating support documentation and knowledgebase as appropriate.

Essential skills:

  • Solaris administration skills
  • thorough understanding of LDAP
  • good understanding of TCP/IP & networking concepts
  • proven customer service skills
  • excellent team work
  • a high level of computer literacy inc. use of common software packages

Desirable skills:
Knowledge of one or more of the following will be an advantage:

  • Sun OpenSSO
  • Sun Identity Manager
  • Network security
  • Cisco routers or firewalls
  • Checkpoint Firewall-1
  • Juniper Netscreen
  • Microsoft Windows server

Participation in an out-of -hours on-call support rota is a requirement, for which additional remuneration is made.
