Building on its commitment to corporate social responsibility dns recently joined forces with Hilton Hotels to provide a safe outdoor play area for the children of the Stenhouse Child and Family Centre.
Offering support to vulnerable and disadvantaged families with children under five, the Stenhouse Centre, one of a number of centres based in the city, allows families respite day care as well as a range of services to support the family including mother and toddler and community groups. With occupational therapists on site, children with disabilities can attend the Centre, which also has a range of medical and social work services.
Due to a lack of recent investment, the outside areas of the centre were in serious need of renovation, which would see the kids able to enjoy a safe and secure play area. After calling on the local business community, the Centre secured enough money to move forward with the project.
The play area has now been completed and is already in use by the children. Anne Alexander, manager of the centre, said “The play area will make such a difference to the children and staff. The old concrete surface was unusable meaning we had to keep children indoors, whereas the new surface provides a safe environment for the younger children to play on all year round. Without the funding from dns and Hilton this would have been unachievable.”
